For roofers

Invoicing and quoting software for roofers

Storm callouts, slipped tiles, full re-roofs and flat roof replacements all price differently — and most of them involve scaffold, weather and a subcontract chain. Telaro handles the paperwork side from a phone.

Price scaffold and access as their own lines

Access can be a large share of a roofing job, and it is often the figure customers query first. Putting scaffold hire, tower hire or edge protection on its own line, with the hire period stated, makes the total easier to explain and stops it looking like padding on the labour rate.

Quotes that survive what you find under the tiles

You cannot see the battens from the ground. Quote the work you can price, then set out your assumptions and a clear rate for replacement timber, felt or leadwork found on strip. A quote with honest exclusions wins more work than one that pretends the roof is perfect.

Deposits for materials, balance on completion

Tiles, slate and lead tie up real money before you earn anything. Record a deposit against the job so the final invoice shows the balance automatically, and keep the stage payments on longer re-roofs tied to visible milestones — scaffold up, strip complete, felt and batten, finished.

CIS when you work for main contractors

New-build and commercial roofing often runs through the Construction Industry Scheme. The contractor works out the deduction from your labour after excluding allowable costs — materials, consumable stores, plant hire and VAT, where you actually paid for them. Set those costs out clearly on the invoice so the contractor can apply the deduction correctly, and Telaro will show the gross, the deduction and the net figure. HMRC's guidance for contractors explains which costs come out before the deduction.

Emergency callouts and insurance work

Storm damage is billed fast or not at all. Save a callout rate, photograph the work, and send the invoice before you leave the street. For insurance jobs, keep the policyholder and the insurer separate on the paperwork and reference the claim number on the invoice.

What roofers use most

  • Saved items for scaffold hire, day rates, tile and slate types.
  • Site address separate from the billing address for landlord and agent work.
  • Deposits and stage payments with the balance carried to the final invoice.
  • CIS deductions applied to labour only.
  • Quotes converted straight to invoices once accepted.
  • Overdue tracking and reminders for the commercial jobs that drift.
